Authorities said they rescued a man who was stuck inside a Georgia rock quarry Thursday night.

Police and fire crews were on the scene in Barrow County for several hours attempting to rescue the man, according to an Auburn police Facebook post.

The walls above the Martin Marietta-Auburn Quarry on Parks Mill Road were unstable because of a recent detonation, and authorities were unsure how the man got inside, police Sgt. Mark Pharr told Channel 2 Action News. The man was not being cooperative and wouldn’t come out of a small hole, Channel 2 reported.

Authorities told the news station the man tried to make a move just after dark, but police were able to grab him. He was taken to the Auburn Police Department, and officers are trying to find out why he went inside, Channel 2 reported.

The man’s identity hasn’t been released. Pharr told the news station no charges have been filed against him at this time. Authorities have also reported that the man suffered only a few scratches.
