One day after a tragic shooting in Haralson County that involved multiple victims and a suicide, an unrelated domestic incident ended with a collective sigh of relief.

An Amber Alert was issued from the typically quiet west Georgia county after 4-year-old Brayden Lee Dobbs was taken by his mother and an unknown man around 6 a.m. Friday, the Haralson sheriff’s office said. Hours later, the alert was canceled after they were found in Douglas County. Brayden was safe and his mother, 42-year-old Anitritte Boyd Dobbs, was arrested, authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Brayden was staying with his father, Lee Dobbs, at a home on Bethlehem Church Road near Buchanan when Anitritte Dobbs and the unidentified man showed up. She and the man became involved in a confrontation with Lee Dobbs that escalated to gunfire, the sheriff’s office said.

Lee Dobbs was shot, and Anitritte Dobbs left with her companion and Brayden in a dark four-door sedan, authorities said. At least two Amber Alerts were pushed out to Georgia residents before Brayden and his mother were found in Douglas, though authorities did not say how they were located. The Amber Alert was canceled around 3 p.m. when the sheriff’s office issued an update on Facebook.

Anitritte Dobbs was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the sheriff’s office said. No further information was released about the unidentified man who accompanied her in the morning, but the sheriff’s office said the investigation had not been completed. Authorities have not shared details about Anitritte Dobbs’ prior felony conviction.

The sheriff’s office did not provide an update on Lee Dobbs’ injuries.

The Amber Alert was the second serious family incident in as many days in Haralson. Law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel were sent to a home in Tallapoosa on Thursday in response to a shooting, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

At the home, officers found Nathan Larry Mayfield standing on the front porch with a handgun, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. While speaking to a Tallapoosa police officer, Mayfield shot and killed himself. Inside the home, 21-year-old Dillion Dobbs was found dead and 20-year-old Joseph Dobbs was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

There is no relation between the Dobbs families and no connection between the two incidents, according to the sheriff’s office.
