Less than two weeks after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound at a Marietta car wash, authorities said a suspect had been arrested.

Robert Baker, 70, was taken into custody Monday night on multiple counts, including murder, after investigators linked him to the fatal shooting, Marietta police said. Authorities said he is accused of killing Daniel Lanard Richardson Jr., 59, on Dec. 30.

Police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy said Baker was identified through “the use of technology as well as witness statements collected during their investigation.” He did not provide further details about what technology was used in the case.

Baker and Richardson were acquaintances, McPhilamy said, but detectives do not yet know the extent of their relationship.

Baker was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Monday and is being held without bond.

The case began when someone called 911 to report a person down in the stall of a self-serve car wash on Bellemeade Drive, police said. The caller said the man was not moving and might need medical attention.

When officers arrived, they found Richardson already dead from a gunshot wound, police said. The location is in a busy commercial area, and the car wash is surrounded by other businesses.

In addition to murder, Baker’s list of charges includes aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, jail records show.
