Gwinnett County police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed five people and injured three others early Monday morning. Police said a vehicle went over the raised ramp and fell onto Pleasant Hill Road.

Five teenagers were killed and three were injured during a three-vehicle crash that closed I-85 for a portion of Monday morning, according to Gwinnett County police.

Authorities said they received reports that a car had gone over the wall of the University Parkway westbound ramp onto I-85 South shortly before 4 a.m. Monday, following a crash involving a second car. When the car fell over the raised ramp onto the I-85 southbound ramp to Pleasant Hill Road, it hit a third car, according to police.

Five people died at the scene. The three people with injuries were taken to the hospital. Their conditions were not released.

The wreck temporarily caused the closure of I-85 and both ramps.

Those killed in the crash were identified late Monday as Katy Gaitan, 17, Ashley Gaitan, 16, and Coral Lorenzo, 17, all from Atlanta, Hung Nguyen, 18, from Lawrenceville, and Abner Santana, 19, of Suwanee. Three of those killed attended Lakeside High School in DeKalb County, police said.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Gwinnett police. To remain anonymous, tipsters should contact Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.stopcrimeATL.com.

At least 20 people were killed in crashes over the Labor Day weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
