One man was killed and another was injured when they were shot by multiple suspects who broke into a DeKalb County apartment on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.

Officers were called to the Kenridge Apartments near Avondale Estates just after 10 a.m. after getting reports of a person shot, DeKalb police said. At the scene, police found one man already dead from a gunshot wound.

The man was later identified as 28-year-old Charles Johnson by the DeKalb medical examiner’s office.

Investigators also found a second victim, a 34-year-old man, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at the home of a relative on Memorial Drive, police said. The man was taken to the hospital.

Police believe several suspects forced their way into the victims’ apartment before shooting at both of them. No further information has been released, and officials did not say if any of the suspects had been identified.
