One person died in a crash Sunday involving a suspected drunken driver going the wrong way on Atlanta’s Downtown Connector, officials said.

Officers responded to the two-vehicle crash near the North Avenue exit just before midnight, Atlanta police said in a statement. One driver was described by police as stable but in critical condition and was taken to a hospital.

The other, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 35-year-old Jamall Bright, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic investigators determined that 30-year-old Honi Jones was traveling north in the southbound lanes and caused the head-on collision, according to the statement. Jones is charged with DUI, reckless driving, wrong-way driving and homicide by vehicle.
