A 9-year-old girl was picking up her toys when she was struck in the arm by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, according to Channel 2 Action News

Police said a car drove up and opened fire about 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hidden Village apartments in the 3400 block of Landrum Drive, the news station reported.

One of bullets hit Kendall Smith, according to Channel 2.

“It’s sad,” Atlanta police Lt. Greg Lyon told Channel 2. “This is not the kind of call we want to respond to at all. Her injuries are severe, but she’s going to be OK.”

Police said at least one gunman was inside the car. They have not said what led to the shooting and are still working to find the intended target.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
