“Alcohol and excessive speed” are believed to be factors in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Saturday in Cobb County, police said.

Cobb County police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said 25-year-old Powder Springs resident Deontay T. Webb was killed in the crash on Barrett Parkway in Marietta. A passenger in the vehicle was treated for minor injuries.

According to police, Webb was driving his 1998 BMW north on Barrett Parkway when he lost control while negotiating a curve near Macland Road.

“The vehicle then began to rotate and crossed over the raised median into southbound lanes of travel, where it then overturned,” Chilton said in an emailed statement. “The vehicle then left the western edge of the roadway and came to a rest on the roof of the vehicle.”

Webb and his his passenger were not wearing seatbelts, Chilton said. Webb was pronounced dead at Wellstar Cobb Hospital.

The crash, which happened around 3:30 a.m., remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
