A 3-year-old boy who was bitten in his head by the family dog has returned home from an Atlanta hospital.

The Polk County boy, identified as Luke Anderson by his mother, was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital after the attack Thursday, the Polk County Standard Journal reported. The incident happened at a residence near Rockmart.

Luke received stitches in his head.

"He's got a rough couple of weeks ahead of him," his mother, Patricia Anderson, posted on Facebook.

According to a Polk County police report, Luke was "picking at the dog" and grabbed its back left leg when the dog turned around and bit him on the head and face.

The dog has been turned over to animal control by police.
