An officer shot a Carroll County woman in the stomach after officials say she fought deputies before charging at them with a butcher knife.

The woman, who was not named, was tasered in the chest while fighting with police before she began charging at the deputy, Carroll Sheriff spokesman Brad Robinson said. The officer then shot her in the stomach.

The incident began when police responded to a call along Evelyn Drive just outside Villa Rica about a woman “acting erratic” in her yard Friday morning, Robinson said. Police were able to get the woman back into her home, Robinson said, but she came back out and deputies were called back to the scene.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but her condition is unknown, Robinson said. The officer had scrapes and scratches but is OK.

Police do not know why the woman was acting out, Robinson said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident.
