A Forsyth County woman is facing charges after authorities said she left her 3-year-old child home alone for hours while she and a man went drinking.

Kelly May Algar is charged with reckless conduct and cruelty to children in connection with the incident, according to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater.

Officials said the child was left at home for “several hours” while she drank at a bar and accompanied the man to a hospital after he passed out. Rainwater said Algar and the man went to the Good Ol’ Days Bar and Grill on Atlanta Road in Cumming about 1:40 a.m. Saturday and closed the restaurant down. About 2 a.m., the pair went outside, and the man collapsed for unknown reasons, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, and Algar went with him, Rainwater said. While there, Algar allegedly told hospital staff she needed to get home to take care of her 3-year-old, according to reports. The child was later found alone in the residence.

Algar was booked into the Forsyth County Jail and released Monday on a $22,730 bond, Rainwater said.

Authorities have not released the man’s name or indicated if he faces any charges. His relationship to Algar and the child is unclear.
