Police are trying to find witnesses to a shooting that left a man dead at an apartment near Stone Mountain.

Detectives told Channel 2 Action News they received a call about 8:30 p.m. Sunday that a man had been shot at a complex along Hambrick Road. When officers arrived, they found the wounded man inside a silver car, police said.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, Channel 2 reported.

The man was identified as John Darios Smith, 22, of Lithonia, according to the DeKalb County medical examiner’s office.

Authorities are working to determine if Smith lived at the complex.

"We have detectives and crime scene techs out here working the scene ... processing all the evidence we have," DeKalb police Lt. Mark Lavigne told Channel 2.

Police have identified at least 12 evidence markers on the scene, but officers have not determined what led to the deadly shooting or made any arrests, Channel 2 reported.
