Hours after a body was discovered in a Carroll County neighborhood, a man prompted a SWAT standoff and was taken into custody, authorities said.

Aaron Tarrie Ashley, 41, of Carrollton, faces four charges after a man’s body was discovered near Rose Street in the San Marco Subdivision, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The victim, whose name has not been released, was found wrapped in a blanket in a brush pile behind Ashley’s house.

While searching for Ashley, deputies received a tip that he could be found at a home off Waddell Street in Bremen, the release said. When investigators tried to speak to him, Ashley allegedly barricaded himself inside the house.

Several other agencies, including Bremen police, Carrollton police, Haralson County deputies and Paulding County SWAT, assisted with the standoff, which ended peacefully, the release said. Ashley was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, concealment of a death and destruction of evidence.

“This is still an active investigation and manner of death and the victim’s identity will not be released at this time pending positive identification and autopsy results,” the release said.

Ashley was booked into the Carroll County jail, where he remained Tuesday without bond, jail records show.
