An eight-vehicle crash over the weekend left 14 people in the hospital, including the man accused of driving drunk and causing the series of collisions.

Officers initially thought they were responding to two separate wrecks about 7 p.m. Saturday, but they quickly learned the scenes were connected, Atlanta police said. The eight damaged vehicles and their injured occupants were found near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Lynhurst Drive.

Everyone involved in the wreck was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators charged 46-year-old Bryant Holyfield with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, following too closely and having no license on his person, police said.

He remains at the hospital in its detention center. He will be booked into the Fulton County Jail when he’s medically cleared to leave the hospital.
