A 4-year-old boy suffered a broken leg when he was partially ejected from a parked minivan struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Tyla McReynolds, 32, is accused of crashing a stolen minivan at 12:08 p.m. Friday into another minivan parked at Shell gas station, 600 South St., Piqua police Lt. Jason Preston said.
The crash was caught on video.
The driver of the parked minivan stepped away momentarily to pay for gas, leaving two young children and a dog in the vehicle. That’s when Preston said McReynolds drove off the street, hit the parked van and crashed into a yard across the street, barely tapping the house. McReynolds then ran from the wrecked van and was caught a short time later, the lieutenant said.
The 4-year-old boy was not strapped into a seat because the minivan was parked, and he was partly ejected out the back window, Preston said. A 2-year-old also was in the car but was still in a child seat and did not suffer any injuries, he said. A family member said the dog, named Patches, was severely injured.
McReynolds suffered a laceration to the top of her head. Preston said she was booked into the Miami County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-skip and felony theft.
McReynolds is being held on $15,000 cash bond.
