People ran for their lives early Wednesday after a shooting and chase outside a popular bar in south Fulton County, according to Channel 2 Action News.
East Point police said a rowdy customer, identified by the television station as 38-year-old Ibrahim Oladunni, was kicked out of The U Bar on Camp Creek Parkway about 2:15 a.m.
Instead of leaving peacefully, the man sped off and started shooting toward the crowded U Bar parking lot, East Point police Detective Ebony Johnson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
He then crashed his car into a tree and overturned, Johnson said.
Officers responded to the scene and approached the man, “who had a handgun still in his hand,” Johnson said.
They told him to drop his weapon.
“The suspect did not follow verbal commands and an officer fired one round, missing the suspect,” Johnson said.
At that point, the man complied and was taken into custody, Johnson said. He is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital after being injured in the crash, Channel 2 reported.
Oladunni has been arrested dozens of times, mostly on drug charges, but he’s been turning his life around since he got out of prison five years ago, his stepfather told Channel 2.
At the time of the shooting, The U Bar was entertaining its popular “$2 Tuesdays” crowd. Customers flock to the bar every Tuesday for $2 drinks and 25-cent wings.
No customers were injured during the gunfire, but witness Marie Furlough described a terrifying scene inside the bar.
“It was just like a storm,” she told Channel 2. “Everybody just heard shots and everybody just scrambled trying to get out of there.”
