A warrant is out for the arrest of an Athens teacher after authorities said she was inappropriately involved with a student.

Athens-Clarke County police obtained a warrant for Kara Elizabeth Coalson, 23, the department said in a news release Monday. Clarke Central High School’s website lists Coalson as a math teacher there.

The Clarke County school district said in a statement that it became aware of a “potentially inappropriate incident that took place off campus involving a student and a teacher.”

“District officials immediately contacted local law enforcement and the teacher was placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation,” the statement said.

Police were called to investigate, and the school district notified officials at the Georgia Professional Standards Commission of the investigation, the district said.

No other details have been released.
