Lt. Tony Breeden said he could hear the loud stereo before he even got out of his patrol car.
When Breeden first arrived, the car was by itself.
Dash cam video shows a man who exits the store and tells the officer he's the owner of the car.
While the two were talking, the man moved from the passenger side to the driver's side of the car, got in, drove forward and slammed into the officer’s patrol car. He then backed up, knocking the officer into a brick column as the officer grabbed the open car door. The man then drove off.
Police think the man entered the store to pay for gas, then became nervous when the officer asked him for his identification.
The officer was not injured.
The manager at the Kangaroo Express in Manchester Village told WSOC-TV that his employees saw what happened, but no one would comment on the incident.
Rock Hill officer Mark Bollinger said they don't know what turned an apparently calm conversation into a violent one. He said the dash cam video shows how calm the officer was.
Police were looking for a white Cadillac Deville with front-end damage and a green paper tag.
