UPDATE: The body has been identified as Jordan Wooten, 21, of Covington, sheriff's Sgt. Cortney Morrison said Saturday. Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said the death was a homicide and the cause was a gunshot wound.

ORIGINAL STORY: Someone dropped off a victim in a deadly shooting at a metro Atlanta hospital, but didn't stick around, authorities said.

Now, Newton County sheriff’s officials are trying to figure out who shot the man, where the shooting took place and who left him at Piedmont Newton Hospital.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Cortney Morrison, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. His identity is being withheld, pending notification of family members.

Covington police, who responded to the hospital about noon, obtained information that the shooting may have happened in unincorporated Newton County, Morrison said.

However, “investigators have not been able to identify the specific location of the crime scene,” and no arrest warrants have been issued, according to Morrison.

The case was later turned over to the sheriff’s office and the victim’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab. An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.
