A 17-year-old was charged Thursday in the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl in southwest Atlanta, police said.

Kedrick Butler of Atlanta was charged with three felonies in connection with the shooting that killed the teenager and injured an adult Monday, Atlanta police said in a news release.

The incident took place about 3:30 a.m. at a home on Washington Street, which is in the Peoplestown neighborhood, AJC.com previously reported. Police found the 15-year-old, identified Friday as Xziria Terrell, with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. She died at the scene.

The man, Orlando Simalton, was found nearby on Haygood Street with four gunshot wounds, police said. He had been shot in the chest and leg and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is stable.

Butler was found at the scene and detained, police said. Investigators determined that he was involved in a separate shooting incident on Washington Street, where multiple shots were fired into a home.

As a result, he was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail on a reckless conduct charge, jail records show.

Investigators have since tied him to the double shooting, alleging that he got into an argument with Simalton and fired the gunshots that killed the teen and critically injured the man, police said.

On New Year’s Eve, investigators obtained murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony warrants against Butler. Jail records also show he faces theft by receiving and obstruction charges from a July 16 incident.

Butler remains in jail without bond, records show.
