Days after a sex offender in Cherokee County failed to register for the second time since his 2013 conviction, he turned himself in to authorities.

Jamun Rhykeen Slocum, born in 1995, failed to re-register and verify his address, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said last week. Capt. Jay Baker told AJC.com that Slocum turned himself in Monday night to face his felony charges.

He was convicted of sexual battery against a child in 2013 but did not receive any prison time, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records. Instead, he was sentenced to five years on probation.

In 2015, he absconded for the first time, leading to him being found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender and netting him 10 months in prison, GDC records show. That stint behind bars at Dodge State Prison ended in May 2018, but he was ordered to remain on probation until 2025.

Last week, Baker said deputies were not able to find Slocum at his last known address, leading to the felony charges.
