Current NFL player and former University of Georgia star Tim Jennings pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless driving and speeding charges out of Gwinnett County.

He was sentenced to 12 months probation in the case that originally included a DUI charge.

Jennings, 31, was pulled over just before noon on Jan. 7, when a Gwinnett County police officer allegedly clocked him going 99 miles an hour on I-85 north near Pleasant Hill Road. Jennings reportedly told police that he was speeding because he was late to a parent-teacher conference, but he denied being drunk.

Jennings, who currently plays for the Chicago Bears, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence, but that offense was dropped as part of Thursday's plea.

Gwinnett County Assistant Solicitor Megan Matteucci said the plea included 24 hours in jail, for which Jennings got credit for time served. Jennings also was sentenced to perform 40 hours of community service, attend a risk reduction class and pay a total of $1,050 in fines.

In addition, Jennings will be subject to random drug and alcohol screenings during the duration of his probation.

Jennings, a South Carolina native, is a two-time NFL Pro Bowler and was an all-SEC performer while at the University of Georgia from 2002 to 2005.
