A tractor-trailer ran a red light, hit a golf cart and sent the cart’s 81-year-old driver to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

Dana Dow, 81, of Braselton, was driving his cart at the intersection of Golf Club Drive and Old Winder Highway in  Barrow County on Aug. 7, according to a Georgia Department of Public Safety incident report.

Dow, who witnesses said had a green traffic signal, was crossing the intersection when Austin Smith, 29, of Gainesville, allegedly ran the red light and struck Dow’s golf cart, the report said. Dow was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Smith received a citation for the incident.
