When it comes to crime in Atlanta there’s some good news: murder and other violent crimes are trending down compared to last year’s numbers.

In the past month Atlanta police have investigated 288 violent crimes, according to crime data sent to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A year ago this time, nearly 360 violent crimes were investigated, according to date from Atlanta police.

But nonviolent crimes are rising in Atlanta. Police have investigated more than 1,700 nonviolent cases in the past month, including burglaries and theft.
