A pregnant woman is mending a broken leg after she was dragged by her own car in southwest Atlanta on Monday, authorities said.

The 26-year-old victim left her red Chevrolet Camaro running when she went into the Food Mart at 2477 Metropolitan Parkway, according to an Atlanta police incident report obtained by AJC.com. Within a minute, she had become a victim of a “slider” crime, which is when someone leaves their car running or unlocked, allowing someone to slide into the car to steal it.

When she returned, she spotted someone inside her car. Surveillance video obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows a white Infiniti sedan drop off a man, who quickly broke a window to get into her car.

“My adrenaline kicked in, so I ran to the car, and then I tried to open my door twice,” the victim, who asked Channel 2 not to identify her, said Friday.

The video shows the woman, who is 11 weeks pregnant, trying to stop the vehicle before it dragged her and ran over her right leg, breaking it. A piece of glass also cut her hand.

Police were able to recover the car, which is equipped with a GPS tracking device, but the two suspects are still on the loose.

East Point police are also assisting in the investigation, since they believe the same suspects have been committing slider crimes in their jurisdiction, the report said.
