An 18-year-old man was hit by a speeding vehicle and killed Sunday afternoon while he was standing near a southwest Atlanta sidewalk.

Moments later, gunshots were fired in the area, Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News. Investigators are now searching for a yellow Jeep Wrangler involved in the deadly incident, the news station reported.

Officers were called to a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Garibaldi Street in Atlanta’s Mechanicsville neighborhood around noon. They found the 18-year-old’s body and determined he was involved in a hit-and-run, according to police.

He was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Tydreico Lee.

Surveillance video, captured by a neighbor’s doorbell camera and obtained by Channel 2, appeared to show a Jeep barrel down the street moments before the victim was hit. A loud crash can also be heard on the video, followed by several rounds of gunfire.

Multiple vehicles parked along the street were damaged and sprayed with bullets, the news station reported.

“Based on witnesses and some evidence, we were able to gather what we know,” Lt. Pete Malecki told Channel 2 from the scene.  “The decedent was standing outside next to the sidewalk on the street, at which point a yellow-colored Jeep Wrangler came up Garibaldi Street at a high rate of speed and did strike the victim.”

Police have not confirmed if Lee was targeted.
