Union City police are trying to piece together what happened after two people, including a teenager, were shot at a party Sunday, officials said.

Police were sent to investigate a noise disturbance in the 7000 block of Apostle Road just after midnight, department spokesman Officer Jerome Turner said. The officers who arrived saw a chaotic scene unfolding.

“Multiple individuals running in the street and through yards,” Turner said. “A series of gunshots heard just yards away from the officers’ marked patrol car.”

Police found that a girl in her teens and a man in his early 20s had been shot, Turner said. Their exact ages were not released.

They were both taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Turner said.

It’s not clear what led to the shooting or who was hosting the party, he said. The event was held in a home that was being used as a short-term rental property. Many of the attendees were young adults or teens, Turner said.

Union City police are trying to identify the shooters and those who were attending the party who might have information, Turner said.

“This remains an active and open investigation and cooperation from the public is of the utmost importance,” he said.
