After an hours-long standoff with Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies, an armed man was found dead inside his home Thursday night, officials said.

The man was identified as Jason Dunn, 64, of Woodstock, Sgt. Marianne Kelley said Friday. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Kelley said, “At no time did anyone on scene from law enforcement fire their weapon.”

Deputies responded about 6 p.m. to the house in the 100 block of Chickasaw Run.

Dunn, who possibly was intoxicated, was shooting his gun in the backyard before he went into the residence, Kelley said.

He fired several shots at deputies, Kelley said, but no one was hit.

“The SWAT team threw several gas canisters into the residence in an attempt to get Dunn to exit the home,” Kelley said. “A robot was later deployed into the residence after no movement inside was observed and located Dunn deceased.”

Kelley confirmed Dunn was dead just before 11 p.m. There were no hostages in the standoff.
