A suspect is wanted in connection with a stabbing Tuesday morning at a southeast Atlanta convenience store.

The victim was stabbed in the chest about 6:10 a.m. at the Exxon station on the corner of McDonough Boulevard and Moreland Drive, Atlanta police said. He was alert when officers responded and was taken to a hospital.

The stabbing is still under investigation, police spokesman Officer Steve Avery told AJC.com.

Investigators are looking for a man last seen walking away from the convenience store along McDonough Boulevard. At the time, he was wearing a red shirt and black pants and carrying a black backpack, Avery said.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police.
