Police in Union City are looking for a man who opened fire on a gas station security guard and ran away.

The shooting happened about 2 a.m. at a RaceTrac in the 4200 block of Ga. 138, according to police spokesman Lt. Christopher Murphy.

When police arrived, they found the security guard with a gunshot wound to his leg, Murphy said.

The guard told police he saw a man breaking into a customer’s vehicle. When the guard confronted him, the man fired and ran, Murphy said. The security guard returned fire, but was hit.

The guard was taken to the hospital. The shooting is still under investigation.
