A former Georgia substitute teacher was sentenced to two years in federal prison after prosecutors said he had hundreds of pornographic images of children on multiple electronic devices.

Ernest Leander Shaw, 66, of Nicholson, pleaded guilty to a single count of child pornography possession, according to U.S. Attorney Byung J. Pak.

Shaw worked at “various schools” in Jackson County, Pak said. In May 2018, the sheriff’s office received a tip that Shaw had an electronic device that contained child pornography.

During an interview, Shaw admitted that he owned the pornographic images. The sheriff’s office searched his home, phone and other electronic devices and found hundreds of pornographic images of children, Pak said.

“It is my hope that Shaw is monitored to the fullest extent and can never have access to children again, as he had access here in Jackson County in our schools,” Sheriff Janis Mangum said.

After Shaw’s prison sentence is complete, he will serve 10 years of supervised release, the first two in home confinement, Pak said.
