Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who robbed a southwest Atlanta convenience store and shot the clerk Friday.

Just after 2:30 p.m.,  the man walked into Star Grocery at 1955 Campbellton Road, went past a customer standing at the checkout window and started going down an aisle, where he picked up some peanuts and potato chips.

When the suspect reached the cashier’s window, he turned around for a moment, then charged into the booth where the cashier was working, Atlanta police said in a statement. The suspect had a gun and pointed it at the clerk. They struggled. A shot was fired, and the bullet hit the clerk in the arm.

The suspect cleaned out the cash register and also took a gun from the counter before leaving the scene, police said. He was wearing a backpack, a gray jacket and blue jeans.

After police arrived, the clerk was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.
