Clayton County SWAT team members leaving a community event Saturday afternoon helped end a foot chase — and catch a man wanted for murder in New York City.

According to an alert issued by Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill, members of the Clayton County Police Department located a stolen vehicle around 4 p.m. Saturday and attempted to stop it. The car drove a short distance before hitting a telephone pole, Hill said, and the man and woman inside ran away.

Police and sheriff’s officials searched the area near Valley Hill Road and Mockingbird Trail and quickly apprehended the female suspect, identified as Passion Alicia Miranda. Miranda was charged with theft by receiving, obstruction, reckless driving and other traffic offenses.

A short time later, SWAT team members leaving a nearby community event spotted the male suspect, Jesse Brent Colon, running out of the woods and apprehended him.

Colon was charged locally with theft by receiving and obstruction, but authorities also discovered that he was wanted in several other jurisdictions. According to Hill, Colon was wanted on murder charges in New York City, and on drug charges in both Albany, N.Y., and Arlington, Va.

Online records list Colon as a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y. Miranda was listed as a Marietta resident.

As of Sunday afternoon, both remained in the Clayton County jail.
