A south Fulton County man will spend the next 25 years in prison for his role in a 2013 fatal gas station shooting that was captured on surveillance video.

More than two years after 32-year-old Eddie Magby III was shot and killed outside a Chevron gas station in the 6000 block of Old National Highway, jurors this week found Timothy Wood guilty of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm during a felony.

On Oct. 6, 2013, Wood and Magby exchanged words inside the convenience store, according to a statement from the Office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard. Wood left the store and walked outside to his car. Magby followed him.

That, Howard’s office said, is when Wood retrieved a weapon from his vehicle, fired three shots after Magby turned to walk away and sped away in his car.

Numerous tips poured in after police released still images from the surveillance video to the media, and Wood was arrested Oct. 24 on a murder charge.

At trial, Wood testified that he believed Magby had a weapon and was defending himself.
