Someone fired a shot in the direction of several Clayton County deputies Tuesday night while they were standing by their patrol cars in a middle school parking lot, Sheriff Victor Hill said in a news release.

The bullet hit a patrol car on the right passenger side, Hill said. The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. while the deputies were at Kendrick Middle School in Jonesboro preparing for a road check.

The car was described as a 2002-06 silver Hyundai Accent four-door, Hill said. After the shot was fired, the car kept going south on Kendrick Road at a high rate of speed.

The right rear passenger was wearing a red and black shirt or jacket and perhaps a toboggan or ski mask, according to the sheriff. No descriptions of the other occupants are available.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact sheriff’s officials at 770-477-4479.
