Three people, including two bystanders, were shot at an Atlanta shopping plaza Saturday after a verbal altercation between two men turned violent, police said.

The shooting happened at Broad Street Plaza just after 6 p.m., according to Atlanta police spokesman James White.

Witnesses told police that two men got into a verbal dispute outside the location. When the fight escalated, one man pulled out a gun and fired, White said.

“One of the suspects was struck, along with two bystanders,” he said.

The injured bystanders were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to police.

Officers who were on patrol nearby detained one of the men involved in the altercation after he tried to run, White said. The other fled the scene and has not been located.

An investigation is ongoing.
