A man was arrested after he assaulted a woman and tried to burn down a home with the woman and two children still inside, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Gregory Alan Garrett, 41, of Flowery Branch, was in the Hall County jail Monday on charges of three counts of aggravated assault, misdemeanor battery, terroristic threats and third-degree cruelty to children.
Sheriff’s deputies went to a home in the 7300 block of Club Crest just before 3:40 a.m. Saturday and found the woman in the yard, Hall County sheriff’s spokesman Derreck Booth said.
Garrett was inside the home with the two young children, who were asleep. Authorities asked him to come out of the home and detained him.
The investigation revealed Garrett hit, kicked and threw items at the woman, leaving her with bruises, scratches and marks, Booth said. Investigators also allege Garrett brought gasoline and charcoal to the home with the intention of burning it down with the woman and the children inside.
The children were not physically harmed and the woman refused treatment, Booth said.
Garrett has a bond hearing scheduled for Thursday and a committal hearing set for July 27.
