Police said an allegedly drunk Alpharetta mother hit a car with her SUV and attempted to flee until she crashed — all while her two young children were in the vehicle.
Nathalie Bevis, 45, is accused of clipping a car on Windward Parkway on June 18 before crashing farther down the road, Alpharetta police spokesman Howard Miller told Channel 2 Action News.
Dashcam video obtained by Channel 2 allegedly shows an officer questioning Bevis once he said he smelled alcohol on her breath.
Miller told the news station that the woman’s 8-year-old and 10-year-old children who had been in the car were clearly frightened.
“(They) came over to the officers and were scared and told the officer that their mother was intoxicated, and they no longer wanted to ride in the car with her, and that she does it all the time,” Howard said.
The man she allegedly hit with her SUV called 911 and said he thought she was drunk because “she just threw a bottle away,” Channel 2 reported.
The footage also allegedly shows one of the children talking to the officer.
“She told me to tell you that I don’t want to live with my mom anymore. My dad said if I get into a wreck with her one more time, then they’re gonna get a divorce,” the child said.
Bevis faces charges of DUI and child endangerment, Channel 2 reported.
