Second suspect arrested in deadly DeKalb motel shootout

A week after authorities arrested a U.S. Navy member accused of killing a man in a Stone Mountain motel shootout last month, DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies arrested a second man in connection with the gunfight.
Jerrell De’Ante Shorter of Ellenwood faces an assault charge after authorities say he fired a shot from a semi-automatic pistol into Ellis Beauford’s motel room window during the Feb. 23 incident, DeKalb sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said in a statement.
On March 1, authorities arrested Neenahjah Rae-Kwon Purvis on accusations he fatally shot Maliki Jawuan Holt, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Purvis had been wanted on a desertion charge at the time of his arrest.
