Atlanta police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of shooting and killing another man outside a busy Buckhead shopping plaza.

A man in a white-ribbed T-shirt is believed to be the “primary aggressor,” but as many as three people assaulted the victim, Lt. Ricardo Vazquez told Channel 2 Action News.

Police also need help identifying a woman who arrived at the plaza with the victim in a red Mercedes-Benz, the television station reported.

Officers responded about 10:41 p.m. Thursday to a call about a shooting outside Piedmont Peachtree Crossing, a shopping center that is home to a Kroger and other retailers and across the street from the Terminus building on Piedmont Road.

They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds near the Mercedes, Channel 2 reported. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

He was identified as Derrick Dukes, 45, of Atlanta, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police believe the victim and the shooter knew each other, but it is unclear how they knew each other, Channel 2 reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, the unidentified man got into a fight with two people in one of the parking spaces and shots rang out, police said. Police are searching for those people, who may have driven away in a blue car.

Police dusted the red Mercedes for fingerprints but do not know what role it played in the shooting, Channel 2 reported.

They do know a lot of people were in the parking lot at the time of the encounter, which was captured on video.

“We feel like there are some witnesses out there that we need to talk to to try to figure out what happened,” Vazquez told Channel 2.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Atlanta police.
