A police officer in Savannah who is facing an aggravated sodomy charge was granted bond Tuesday, court records show.

Arthur Lashawn Thorpe, 27, was arrested and booked into the Chatham County jail July 19 as a result of an investigation by the GBI, Savannah police spokeswoman Bianca Johnson confirmed to AJC.com.

Thorpe has been employed by Savannah police since September 2016 and remains on administrative leave, Johnson said. He was placed on leave when the investigation began in September 2018.

Chatham court records show the alleged incident took place April 21, 2018. He was granted a $7,500 bond.

Police haven’t released any additional information at this time.
