A man called Roswell police last month to say he was robbed at a gas station.
But police said that was the real crime.
It all started when Sami Moukarim called 911 to report the alleged incident, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“This person came to us and claimed he was robbed at a gas station,” Roswell police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland said, “and that somebody took his wallet.”
But when police went to the QuikTrip to check it out, the story fell apart.
"Our officer went back to the location and reviewed the video,” Holland said, “and discovered that none of this had occurred. The story didn't match up to what they reviewed on the video."
Moukarim is charged with falsely reporting a crime, police said.
"Filing a false report is a crime and people will be charged because it does waste our officers’ time and resources,” Holland said.
And Moukarim is getting another look from authorities in Cobb County. A police spokesman there said they once took a theft report from Moukarim, Channel 2 reported. They closed the case, but they are reviewing it in light of the events in Roswell.
