A man is dead after a dispute with his roommate escalated from a verbal altercation to a physical one.

Robert Bryan, 21, allegedly stabbed roommate Wesley Ford, 24, after an argument about Bryan moving out to live with someone else, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said Monday.

The argument started over the phone and continued during a face-to-face meeting Friday afternoon, Rodriguez said.

“The victim arrived at the apartment, and soon after a physical altercation began between the two of them,” Rodriguez said. “It was during that physical altercation that the victim received the fatal stab wound.”

Officers responded to a call about a person down just after 4 p.m. in the 900 block of East Broad Street.

When they arrived, they found Ford on the ground, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” Rodriguez said. “And the detectives are investigating the possibility of self-defense.”
