Bullets cracked the glass windows of the Mrs. Winner's on Glenwood Road on Friday, the morning after an armed robber fired several rounds inside the fast-food restaurant.

An armed robbery at a Mrs. Winner’s restaurant in DeKalb County led to an exchange of gunfire as customers dined Thursday afternoon, police said.

A man entered the fried chicken chain on Glenwood Road about 3:50 p.m. and began firing shots and demanding money, DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said.

A nearby shop owner heard the commotion and rushed to stop the suspect as he left the restaurant, prompting a shootout between the store owner and the robber, police said.

No one in the restaurant was hit or injured when an armed robber exchanged gunfire with a next-door shop owner, according to police.

The robber was able to make it to a car parked outside the restaurant and drive off with an unknown amount of cash, but detectives are not sure whether he was shot, Spencer said.
