A Georgia man was killed in a wreck Thursday morning.
On the same day, he was expected to plead guilty in a child porn possession case, federal authorities told the Augusta Chronicle.
Mason Keith Smith, 25, of Grovetown, had been charged with one count of possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Georgia confirmed to the newspaper. He was scheduled to enter a guilty plea in the U.S. District Court in Augusta later Thursday.
However, he died in a head-on collision near Appling about 5 a.m., according to several media reports. Smith was driving a Ford F-150 east on Washington Road near Keg Pointe Drive when he crossed the center line and hit an empty tractor-trailer, the Chronicle reported.
Smith died at the scene, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the newspaper reported.
No other information on the child pornography case Smith was allegedly going to plead guilty in has been released.
