The investigation continued Friday into the shooting deaths of a young couple in Powder Springs, the first two homicides in the Cobb County city since 2011.
Anthony and Catherine Costner, of Lithia Springs, were both found shot inside their Pontiac Grand Am early Thursday, according to Chief Deputy Matt Boyd with Powder Springs police. Investigators were working to piece together a timeline of events, starting with when the couple left home with their 3-year-old daughter and when the two were found dead inside the car. The little girl was not injured.
No arrests had been made early Friday afternoon. But Boyd said the public is not in imminent danger.
“This was not random,” Boyd told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to what they thought was a single-vehicle accident along Parks Drive near Sharon Drive. When they found the car, a red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, backed into a ditch, they discovered something else: a 24-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds, a 22-year-old woman with at least one gunshot wound.
Anthony Costner had already died. His wife died despite being taken to the hospital, police said.
The couple’s daughter was temporarily placed in state custody. By Friday, she had been released to family members, Boyd said.
