About 30 pounds of methamphetamine was found in the axle of a utility trailer during a traffic stop on I-85 in Coweta County, officials said.

A truck driven by Ruben Alexander Jimenez-Gamez, 40, of Morelos, Mexico, was pulling the trailer, GBI agent Joe Chesnut said in a news release.

After a police dog smelled drugs in the vehicle Friday, it was taken to the Georgia State Patrol post in Newnan, the GBI said.

Officers then found the meth, which was being delivered to metro Atlanta, Chesnut said.

Jimenez-Gamez is in the Coweta County jail without bond, the GSP said.

The Coweta County Narcotics Unit assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing.
