A woman in her late 40s was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Northeast Austin, police said Tuesday night.

Police received a call of shots fired at 7:40 p.m. at the Westheimer Oaks Apartments at 2606 Wheless Lane, off Manor Road. Patrol officers found the woman dead outside when they arrived.

The woman has not been identified. No one else was injured, police said.

Police have not detained anyone and did provide descriptions of any possible suspects, but are interviewing several witnesses, they said Tuesday night.

The shooting marked the third slaying in as many days, which is unusual for Austin, a detective at the scene said.

Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no immediate danger to the public.
