Police arrested a 50-year-old man Friday who allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old teen in a car at a busy Decatur intersection.

Simmie Rischard Reed fatally shot Janae Owens and injured her mother Wednesday at the intersection of South Candler Street and Midway Road, Decatur police said in a news release.

Reed is currently charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said.

The arrest was made in conjunction by the Decatur Police Department, the DeKalb County Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. A tip to Decatur police led to the arrest, the release said.

Reed is currently in the DeKalb County Jail. He was previously charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in March 2018, according to jail records.
