Suspect in deadly road rage shooting arrested

Simmie Rishcard Reed was arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police arrested a 50-year-old man Friday who allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old teen in a car at a busy Decatur intersection.

Simmie Rischard Reed fatally shot Janae Owens and injured her mother Wednesday at the intersection of South Candler Street and Midway Road, Decatur police said in a news release.

Reed is currently charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said.

The arrest was made in conjunction by the Decatur Police Department, the DeKalb County Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. A tip to Decatur police led to the arrest, the release said.

Reed is currently in the DeKalb County Jail. He was previously charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in March 2018, according to jail records.
